Small Fire at Port Operations Building, Pending Terminal.
On 30 July 2024 at about 4.27pm, Pending Terminal experienced a small fire at its administrative building. The small fire involved PVC pipes in the ceiling of Level 1. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
KPA auxiliary police were alerted by the fire alarm system, which is linked to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba). It was followed by the evacuation process, which was done quickly and smoothly with the assistance of each floor’s marshal before the arrival of the firefighting teams.
Upon arrival of the Bomba teams at 4.43pm at the scene, the firefighters acted quickly to inspect the building and once they noticed the smoke coming out from Level 1 and 2, the firefighters proceeded to extinguish the fire and ventilated the building to disperse the smoke.
KPA General Manager, Mr. Robert Lau said: “There was no injury and no serious damage arising from this incident. The situation was under control with the assistance of the firefighters from Tabuan Jaya and Padungan fire stations.” Mr. Robert Lau thanked the Bomba from Tabuan Jaya and Padungan fire stations for their prompt response. He added that the security and safety measures at the port would be reviewed to minimize any fire risk.
